Chemistry

Trash and Recycling

How does one answer this question if they didn’t retain how the specific chemical structures affect the recyclability or reusability? Granted I do know that thermoplastics are easier to recycle because they can be melted down without putting off any harmful fumes, which means it can be done in a home setting making it more accessible to the modern family (the majority).

I do think consumers have a huge impact on the community because we are the ones that choose what we buy but I don’t think it should be completely on the consumers to make the change, we have these giant corporations that are using materials without thinking about the longterm side of things and that is the impact I see, I see a constant supply and demand resulting in the destruction of our planet, but it’s okay because its for money.

I learned that you could melt HTPE down because it’s a thermoplastic. and that we fu**ed up by using plastic for as long as we did because one of the most used materials on the planet is plastic and were constantly pumping it out, not to mention it doesn’t biodegrade. I learned that we’re f***ed unless we can simultaneously change our habits as well as the sources corporations utilize because right now were caught in a loop of consumerism that needs to be broken, but whos to say which way a cookie will break before it breaks.
