Sustainable Design Project

Project Reflection

My first thoughts on the project were essentially this is a really good idea we need to have more green/eco-friendly structures in the world, and at this point I had no idea that we were actually building something. Throughout the entire project I've been pretty interested in everything that's been going on, I think the only part I didn't like was the field trip to twin buttes because I don't like standing around for long periods of time, and we did wole bunch of that, I lost interest pretty fast. I learned that the fact there no playground at the middle school or high school is bull#% I had so much fun at the playground in twin buttes, but that's a different argument. The day we got into our build teams and fed some credentials we already knew what we were gonna do, and everything  we're told that could change our ideas ether gave us better ideas to build on or we stayed with our main idea.from the get go we were on top of it, our group was ahead of everyone. Some problems we ran into were the originally spot we were gonna build was on C.D.O.T land and we would need a permit to build and we were prepared to get said permit but we were on the bottom of their priorities list and we didn't have the time to wait on them.So we moved to a spot behind the school, changed the blueprints and started by digging holes and getting distracted, productivity slowed down drastically, we spent a few days there then we moved again because it got to the point where we didn't have the time to finish so we regrouped and refocused and started planning according to the materials we already had so we could just start building.About halfway with the building process we were informed that the school uses the stage twice a year so we couldn't build there, so we took it down and moved I on the hill, and litely ripped it in half and went from there. For the fourth and last movement we decided to build a shade structure, we did this by laying it diagonally on the hill and put sheet metal on top. We had some problems throughout the project but we persevere and built a comfortable shade structure that lots of people enjoy.

Field Trips and Guest Speakers

Some learning questions I came away with were,”how does the sun positions affect the overall temperature of a structure?” and “what is the most effective\efficient\Eco-friendly building material we could use?”. A memorable moment from the field trip to the Fort, the professor made robots that could go around a lake for a month and record P.H levels, temperatures, and a number of other things.

What Is sustainability

To me sustainability is something that happens when one object or thing is getting enough input to suffice the output and some for storage. An example of this is, if there is a water jet pointed at a turbine and the turbine powers the jet, you manually spin the turbine until the jet has enough power to spin. (this only works if turbines produced more power)
