Project Reflection

I grew as a writer because I needed to use vocabulary haven't really used in the past, and I've lend that opening up to the page really brings out the best in you righting. In my essay for the mask project I talked about some pretty personal things, I think that if I say something that's personal someone can relate on a level that no one talks about.

Some of my biggest takeaways are that socialization takes a bigger role in our life than you would think like the small things like putting the blue beanie on the new born boy and the pink beanie on the girls. And that the color “flesh” is a beige and Indian red was in a child's box of colors. This unit makes me look at the world the way all people should, past all the lies and bias made by big corporations.people are so flooded with bias and propaganda you can go anywhere without seeing ads.

I've grown as a project worker because this project made us create a room following the what we learned, this helps me because im a hands on learner so to take something that we learn in class and bring it to life however we want. And this gave me a chance to be a leader and listen to people. I helped with making the room look professional.

I’ve grown as a group member because im not good at listening to people and now Im better at taking people's advice.

Essay

Socialization is how people are influenced and controlled by society. A good example is that  some people are under the influence that being skinny is beautiful, so they starve themselves to unnatural extends.Agents and targets, agents are the people that influence the general public, the people that you hear about.Targets are the people that don't usually have a voice, the people that are brainwashed by society, the people that buy things they don't need because the product has a “happy color”.I've been socialized as a teenager that's less than, a troublemaker.

I've been socialized as a drugged up teenager that doesn't care about anything. So, why do people think im a slacker, Because Im a teenager and it doesn't help that I skate board. In that way im following the stereotype but I shouldn't have to stop doing something I like to make people look at me as an equal. Also, because my friend group is made up of people in the same boat as me. Last year me and my friends were walking on the river trail someone  said “fu***n stoners” and that really made me feel like an outcast. It kind of wares on your self esteem when people always looks at you like as an outcast.

I dress like a skater, stoners typically wear the same style of clothes or old baggy clothes. So, that’s just another thing skaters get judged about, if you dress like a stoner you are one? No.  you should be able to dress however you want without being called a drug dealer.  When I walk around town people look at me up and down, or will look at me sideways. As a skater I am done with being judged everywhere I go.

As a skater I don't want to be judged as I walk down the street. A way that we, the skateboarding community, can change these stereotypes is to do more community service or volunteer at the local “puppys and old people home”. My best advice would be don't do drugs, there are more negatives than positives.

Truth of Happiness

Self Reflection

I have discovered my truth of happiness to be snowboarding because it's the one thing im confident to say i've mastered and there is only a couple concepts I have yet to master, such as big air and rails. Snowboarding plays such a huge roll in my life and every single time I get on that lift it gives me a feeling of hope and creativity and over that 5 minute ride the adrenalin builds, I get off the lift and squander to the head-wall like a  toddler to its mother.

The greatest problem I ran into was getting sick, I got sick for a solid two weeks and vincent had to do the majority of the project. Vincent did all the videography, interviews and editing, I was there for support and thinking we had clips when we didn’t, but I helped with editing and I found the music that went good with everything and i gave some ideas that were implemented into the final project and were core functions such as the interview how it cut in the middle of the stence and went back to B-roll and back to what he was saying.

I grew as a group worker because I feel like I can produce more high quality work when I work with vincent and I feel more motivated when I work with him. we think almost exactly the same so when I have an idea he can understand it much easier than most people would, and if on of is is working the other will 85% of the time follow and work as hard.

If I could refine something it would have to be the part where I never annotated in the brave new world book ultimately failing me. I was reading at a fairly average speed and i was understanding what was going on it was just the fact of having to write something about stopping, writing about it and finding where it was that I read it and go back and start again, it disrupts the flow and if i read that's a really important part of it.

Project Reflection

When the happiness unit began I was a little confused because we started with“Brave New World” and at first I didn't know how it tied in with the project but then we get to the part with Soma and it made more sense. We learned that Soma is a drug and it symbolizes addiction and and how it can get in the way of the important things in life. Then we did a Socratic seminar afterwards.Stage 2 was understanding how happiness works, so we watched a lot of videos and TED talks and read a bunch of articles and did another Socratic seminar.

The next thing we did was get ready to start the “Happiness Video” for that we went through a couple different stages of story boarding and once we got a pretty good idea of what it was gonna look like we would go out and get some videos (B-roll, Interviews etc.) we had a ton of freedom throughout this whole project, so we could take any skills we might already had and implement them into it into the process.
